Small Culpeper style microscope with rack and pinion focusing c.1800.

An early 19th century lacquered-brass compound monocular Culpeper-type microscope. Unsigned, with rack and pinion fosusing, the body-tube cicular stage and mahogany plinth base with accessory drawer united by scroll support terminating in diamond-shape feet. With fice objectives, talc box, bull's eye condenser, live box, lieberkuhn, frog-plate, ivory sliders with list and other items, in pyramid shaped case. 16in. (40,7cm) high.

The most common compound microscope of the 18th C. First sold by the Englishman Edmund Culpeper (1660-1738)
